Julie Cavanaugh

Owner, Principal Interior Designer, ASID, CID#5922

Born in the Mid-West and raised on the East Coast, Julie’s exposure to different environments created a passion for homes, architecture and design at a young age, and she has since dedicated her career to interior design.  With an eye for spatial relationships and creative problem solving, Julie’s interiors bring functional sensibility and tremendous flow while achieving beautiful proportions.  Not afraid to mix color, texture and scale, Julie’s homes provide unique and unparalleled “livable luxury”.

Julie completed her education in Interior Design in 1998, achieved CID licensure and became a professional ASID member in 2002.  Eighteen years ago, Julie moved and expanded her business from a small office location as a sole proprietor into a showroom venue – Design Matters.  By allowing clients to receive professional design services paired with a wide array of the best materials from the most respected vendors, Design Matters is a one-stop design firm and showroom that eases the process of transformation for homeowners as they embark upon creating their newly tailored environments.

Julie relates her transformation of homes as if writing a novel.  The cover is the approach to the house, flooded with visual importance and first impressions.  The book is then opened and the forward is read.  As you step into the entry the home is visually received, providing an introduction of what is to come.  As the chapters of rooms unfold, Julie entwines threads of continuity that bring purpose and harmony to each space, creating an overall depth of meaning that ties the entire home together from beginning to end.

As a featured speaker on radio and online forums; a noted contributor to architecture, design, living and style magazines; a requested university guest speaker and televised interior design contributor for HGTV, Julie’s dedication to her craft and field remain her passion and commitment – a passion and commitment that is palatable and contagious!

“Livable Luxury” is Julie’s thumbprint!

Cindy Shepherd

Interior Designer

Cindy Shepherd has been with Design Matters since the Fall of 2012.  She is a graduate of the Interior Design program at West Valley College in Saratoga, California, and attended Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri and Cabrillo College in Santa Cruz, California.  Cindy’s professional background is in Escrow, concentrating primarily in residential, construction and new subdivisions.

Cindy has always been passionate about residential design, color and textiles, and enjoys the opportunity of creating a cohesive design that is unique to each client.  Cindy is driven by the challenges in coordinating hard finishes, soft goods and color palettes, and strives to find elements that bring an elegant sense of ease and comfort to her clients.  She also has a great respect and appreciation for accessible design and aspires to integrate form and function into her projects.  By being detailed in every aspect of the design process, Cindy is able to create enticing environments that enrich the lifestyle of her clients.

Cindy enjoys spending time with her family and friends, and working in her garden.  She especially treasures spending time with her two sons, Chase and Connor, and her two lovable boxers, Capone and Rosebud.

Outside of work you can find Nicole enjoying a glass of wine, spending time with family and friends, being outdoors, and listening to Ed Sheeran.

Yvette Head

Interior Designer, Production Designer

Yvette’s love for design and architecture began when she was a child. Her father was a civil engineer and she grew up constantly around the work he brought home – including work drawings and drafting tools. Yvette pursued her dream and graduated from San Jose State University with a B.S. in Interior Design, and has been in the field of architectural design ever since.  She even still loves old school hand-drafting!

When Yvette is not in her art studio fulfilling her other passion, she is in her garden or spending quality time with her family. Before she knows it, she and her husband will be empty nesters and she’s not quite sure if she’s ready for that!

Sasha Wylde

Interior Designer

From coastal Santa Cruz, California, Sasha Wylde brings a fresh vision to the world of design.  With a degree in Interior Architecture from The Rhode Island School of Design, she uses her knowledge of sustainable materials and attention to human factors to create spaces that flow and function seamlessly.

Sasha is currently in pursuit of becoming a LEED green associate, which she was drawn to after spending years researching eco-friendly materials.  In addition, Sasha keeps up with modern trends and is constantly exploring design elements when developing ideas.  With a love for the outdoors she pulls inspiration from the textures and patterns found in the natural world around her, and brings innovative design to life with her passion for materials and a drive to create the perfect space for every individual.

Outside of the work place, Sasha loves to be creative –  from intaglio print to custom jewelry, her art influences her design and sharpens her eye for detail.
